Rigorous testing in snowy roads by the London automotive company

Reading Time: 5 minutes

The news about the LTC (London Taxi Company) testing the cabs in the cold weather is the talk of the town and the people might have the chance of hailing in electric cars by the last quarter of the year 2017.

The secretive test drive in the snow

The new electric black cabs were tested in early March by the LTC in Norway where the climate is extremely cold. The automotive company informed that the product quality program is a comprehensive one in its ninety eight year old history and all the new electric cars are now currently in the testing phase and the temperature at the place is -15°C, the test drive is done at this place at this temperature is because of the extreme cold weather that does not affect the vehicle range and its battery condition.

The other main factor to test the vehicle under the cold temperature is to analyze the comfort of the passengers and the drivers can manage the HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioner) system that can perform even during the severe conditions. Apart from these major factors, the auto company wanted to check the other factors like visibility, the ability to drive the vehicle, the standard spec and grip of the vehicles are also analyzed. The company also conducts some tests that will cool the cab to the frigid temperature like -49°C and this test is performed to check whether the vehicle can even be started after a cold night.

Since the company designs, and produces the taxicabs to all the countries in the world, it is necessary for the company to test its vehicles at extreme temperatures, so once when the testing is done under the cold weather, the company will test the vehicle in extreme hot temperature before launching the vehicles officially by the end of this year.

While designing these new electric vehicles, the company considers only 2 main aspects, the endurance and the quality that is the most demanding factors of the raising taxi industry. The company reported that they are nearing the completion of the development programme and provide the products to a series production in the Coventry area in the United Kingdom. The car transportation industry and the drivers from all over the world are expecting that the range of these extended electric vehicle technology cabs are able to withstand and word under climatic conditions, so the test conducted by the company is a crucial point for the LTC. So, during the testing period the company considers the feedback of the car drivers.

The electric cars are the transportation future

The new cabs designed by the automotive engineering company consist of an electric engine that is zero emission vehicles and it does not have the small petrol motor that is used in charging the battery from time to time to increase its range.

At present, all the black taxicabs have the diesel engine and the diesel is becoming the major terror in the environment conservation causing air pollution. The Transport for London released the report in 2013 that estimated that the black cabs are the main reason of emitting the poisonous gasses like the nitrogen oxide, and it contributes about fifteen percent of the gas produced in the Central London. Also, the diesel generates thirty one percent of the small particles called the PM 2.5s and twenty six percent of the large and dangerous soot particles called the PM 10s.

The electric taxicab will adopt the techniques that seem to be common with the vehicles like the BMW i3 Range Extender and the Vauxhall Ampera that has a range of extended electric design. The LTC will open a facility on March 22nd, 2017 after the investment received from the Chinese parent company and they will establish the zero emission capable legislation from January 1st, 2018.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of Landon has stated that his first and top most priority is to clear the air from the poisons and dangerous gasses that are emitted from the vehicles so that by 2018 the city will become zero emission capable. And this means that the person driving the cab must drive the vehicle for thirty miles without producing any air pollution that is most often caused by the modern vehicles.

There are even plans on stationing around one hundred and fifty charging points by 2018 and to increase it to three hundred by 2020. However, even after allowing many pounds in the subsidies the new electric vehicles will cost fort thousand pounds.

Though London gives an international feeling

The new electric taxicabs are manufactured at the Coventry in the United Kingdom and the factory values three hundred million pounds and all the funds are from the Chinese currencies because the company is bagged by the leading multinational company from China.

The members of the testing team in Norway includes Dr Wolfram Liedtke, the German engineer who leads the quality control, Liedtke is the former East German international cyclist. He missed making the team for the Olympics in 1960 in Rome. And also most of them on the team are from Sweden as it is evident that the Chinese automaker owns the Volvo.

As air pollution is the major concern in the present environment condition, the international market is expecting ecofriendly taxicabs for the on demand transportation company. The Chinese automotive company has plans to design even more cabs for the market in the United Kingdom, and also received interests from other countries like China, Madrid, Paris and Berlin.

The auto company of ‘The Old Smoke’

The London Taxi Corporation Limited is an automotive engineering company that is solely owned by the Chinese multinational automobile company Geely, its principle productions are the taxis, engines, transmissions, automobiles, delivery vans and automobiles. The company has its headquarters in the Coventry in the United Kingdom and was founded in 1899.

The key activities of the automotive engineering company are the designing, developing and producing of the taxicabs and when the conglomerator of the UK motorcycle marques, all the sales components division left the company in 2013 leaving behind only a single operating division. That single operating division was the LTI Ltd that is trading as the LTC.

The LTC is the leading manufacturers in the London black taxicabs for the transportation market in the United Kingdom as it is the manufacturing site in the Coventry and in the Shanghai and sale the taxicabs all over the world. Also, the company retails the taxis and provides service maintenance in major cities across the world. The Manganese Bronze Holding was the former administrator of the automotive company that has never made any profit after 2007. The Chinese automaker that already owns twenty percent of the shares in the company’s business in the United Kingdom, in 2012 purchased the LTC’s major assets and the trading from the administration to save the business from bankruptcy and they continued the production of the taxicabs in the Coventry.

The transportation industry is focusing on high performance and environment friendly vehicles so there is no option rather than to adapt to the range extender vehicles of the LTC as the Transport for London legislation will be held in the first quarter of next year.
