Interior painting is one of the most important steps in home décor activity. With the advent of modern DIY kits, there is no cheaper way to freshen up the look of a room. Needless to say, there are certain steps to be followed to ensure the success of a paint job, which are mentioned below:
The first and the most important step is the prepping up of the surface that is to be painted. Preparation includes scrapping, sanding, patching and filling up cracks, holes, surface unevenness and dents. This step is crucial as no matter how expensive or high-performance paint is applied; an imperfect surface will not hold it properly. The other factors that are considered important by interior painters for a hassle-free paint job are:
Priming the surface to be painted is mandatory in case a new wall, generally drywall or a surface with an already applied dark color is considered, however painters prefer to use primer coating on any surface they paint. The three most important reasons for primer usage are:
- Prevents background stains from bleeding out.
- Provides a paint coat coverage.
- Helps the paint adhere better to the surface, thereby reducing peeling and blister formation.
Use of Canvas
Though a more cost-effective solution is to use plastic drop cloths for protecting furniture and floor from paint slash and spatters, use of canvas for the purpose is recommended for a number of reasons.
- Canvas is resistant to ripping or tearing.
- Durable material.
- Tripping hazard for interior painters is minimized as the material falls and stays flat on the ground.
- Absorbs paint spills and does not become slippery on the surface.
- Can be easily folded and adjusted.
- Can be reused.
For individuals who are stepping into the shoes of interior painters, an extension pole is a better choice than a stepladder. Extension poles are available in a wide range of lengths. The threaded hole of the paint roller brush can be easily twisted into the extension pole. While buying the extension pole look for the one which has soft non-slip rubber grip and a rigid metal core. Make sure that end of the pole is metal. Factors to consider while choosing extension pole are:
- Handle with a non-slip grip
- Strong metal core
- Metal threaded end
Rolling the paint off from a tray often has a messy outcome. Most professional interior painters use paint grids for a hassle-free painting experience. A paint grid is a rectangle shaped plastic or metal screen that is hung inside the paint bucket. The paint roller brush is dipped in paint and then rolled against the grid to remove the excess paint from the brush.
Painting job may take more than a day to finish and that is where interior painters are faced with a challenge with respect to overnight storage issues of their equipment. Cleaning of the brushes and the paint grid is an extremely laborious job. An easy way out is to roll of the excess paint from the brushes and the grid and wrapping them up tightly in food wrapping foil or plastic wrap. This method is very effective in keeping the paint from drying out that may render the equipment unusable.
Track of brand name and color code
It is possible that you might end up with the color and if you don’t keep a track of the brand name and color code then you might end up getting wrong color that will not match with the earlier one, therefore keep a proper record of the color.
